Mike's Coastal Expeditions was born from a lifelong love of nature and a dream to share it with others. I'm Michael Furman — a Florida native, new father to my one-year-old son John-Michael, and the founder of this growing adventure company based in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Growing up in Southwest Florida, I was always surrounded by wildlife and wild places. From an early age, I felt a deep connection to animals and the environment. That connection only grew stronger over time, eventually leading me to study locally — but it was outside the classroom, guiding others on the water, where I found my true calling.

I left college to pursue that passion full-time, and after gaining valuable experience leading kayak tours, I launched Mike's Coastal Expeditions. What started as a solo dream has quickly become one of the fastest-growing eco-tour companies in the region.

With over five years of guiding experience and two years of running my own business, I'm proud to offer meaningful, educational, and unforgettable adventures through the incredible ecosystems of Southwest Florida. As a father, I'm more driven than ever to protect these places and to help others see their beauty and importance.

Buzz and Side Kick JJ

Adventure Guide, Avid Sailor and SUP Enthusiast

Buzz joined our team in the summer of 2024 after moving to Southwest Florida from Texas, though his roots go back to Ohio where he first developed his love for the outdoors. A lifelong adventurer, Buzz is an all-around waterman with experience in kayaking, sailing, paddleboarding, and water sports like foiling, windsurfing, and kite surfing. He's also a seasoned athlete who's competed in marathons, triathlons, and motocross — always pushing himself to explore nature through motion.

Buzz brings his passion for the outdoors to every tour, guiding with a calm, friendly presence and an eagerness to share the hidden beauty of the mangroves, estuaries, and wildlife with others.

At his side is JJ, his loyal 5-year-old rescue dog and honorary crew member. JJ is always by Buzz's heel — whether on land or water — and joins every tour with a wagging tail and a calm, friendly demeanor. Guests love having JJ along for the ride, and he's become a favorite face of our expeditions.

Together, Buzz and JJ make a fantastic team, helping guests feel at home on the water while encouraging a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them.

Nick

Studying Biology and Future Veterinarian

Nick is a lifelong Florida native, born and raised right here in Fort Myers. His deep connection to nature started at a young age and has only grown stronger over the years. Currently studying Biology at Florida Gulf Coast University, Nick aspires to become a veterinarian — a dream fueled by his genuine love for animals and the natural world.

In addition to guiding tours, Nick volunteers with several Southwest Florida organizations, including the Shy Wolf Sanctuary, where he helps care for and protect rescued wildlife. His passion for local ecosystems shines through in every tour, as he enthusiastically shares fun facts and fascinating insights about the creatures that call this area home.

Nick joined our team in the summer of 2024 and has quickly become a favorite among guests for his warm personality, knowledge, and ability to make every trip educational and engaging. Whether you're spotting dolphins, birds, or manatees, Nick's excitement is contagious — and his tours are always filled with discovery.

Ethan

Studying Marine Biology

Ethan is a proud Southwest Florida local with a bright future ahead. Recently graduating high school through a dual enrollment program, he's now stepping into his first year at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he'll be studying Biology with a focus on marine science. His ultimate goal? To become a marine biologist specializing in marine research.

Ethan's love for the water runs deep — both professionally and personally. When he's not leading tours, you'll likely find him kayaking through the mangroves or out on the water with a fishing rod in hand. Fishing isn't just a hobby for Ethan — it's a true passion that fuels his appreciation for coastal ecosystems and the incredible diversity of life found in our waters.

Despite his young age, Ethan is wise beyond his years, with a calm, friendly demeanor and a genuine love for nature that shines through on every tour. Guests quickly pick up on his enthusiasm and curiosity, making each trip not just scenic, but inspiring and memorable.
