Estero Bay is in your backyard — discover it with expert guides just 15 minutes away
Living in Estero means you're closer to some of Southwest Florida's most spectacular coastal ecosystems than almost anyone else — yet many Estero residents have never actually explored Estero Bay by kayak. The bay that shares your town's name is one of Florida's first aquatic preserves, a 12,000-acre protected estuary teeming with dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, and more than 250 species of birds.
Mike's Coastal Expeditions launches from Big Hickory Island, just 15 minutes from the heart of Estero. That makes us closer to Estero than the grocery store is to some neighborhoods. Our guided tours take you into the protected mangrove tunnels, tidal creeks, and barrier island shorelines that make Estero Bay one of the most biodiverse paddling environments on Florida's Gulf Coast.
Whether you live in Coconut Point, the Villas at Estero, or anywhere along the US-41 corridor, you have a world-class kayaking experience practically in your backyard. It's a completely different perspective on the place you call home — and one that will make you appreciate why Estero Bay has been a protected ecosystem since 1966.
Whether you choose our premium Hobie pedal-drive kayaks for an effortless, hands-free experience or our high-quality Crescent paddle kayaks, every tour includes expert local guides, carbon fiber paddles, complimentary photos, and bottled water — all with no booking fees.
Our tours wind through mangrove tunnels where manatees rest in shallow waters, along oyster bars where dolphins feed, and out to secluded barrier island beaches. You'll paddle through Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve, one of Florida's first aquatic preserves, with a guide who knows every channel, every wildlife hotspot, and the best routes for the day's conditions.
We also offer sunset glow tours with LED-lit kayaks, clear kayak tours for underwater viewing, and stand-up paddle board options. Private and corporate group tours accommodate up to 100 guests.
Mike's Coastal Expeditions is just 15 minutes (approximately 8 miles) south of Estero — we're practically neighbors. Head south on US-41 into Bonita Springs, then follow County Road 865 (Hickory Blvd) to our launch site at Big Hickory Island.
From the Coconut Point area or Miromar Outlets, it's a quick drive south on US-41. If you're near Koreshan State Park, you're already almost here — just continue south on US-41 for a few minutes. Free parking is available at our launch location.
The short drive means you can easily fit a tour into a weekday morning or make it a regular weekend activity. Many of our Estero regulars paddle with us monthly.
Pair your kayak adventure with some of Estero's other highlights. Koreshan State Historic Site offers a fascinating look at a utopian settlement from the 1890s, with nature trails along the Estero River, historic buildings, and camping. It's a perfect pre-paddle stop just minutes from our launch.
For shopping and dining, Miromar Outlets and Coconut Point Mall are both right along US-41, making it easy to combine a morning paddle with an afternoon outing. Hertz Arena hosts concerts and events if you're looking for evening entertainment.
For Estero residents, our tours offer something special — the chance to truly know the bay that defines your community. Many first-time guests tell us they had no idea such pristine wilderness existed so close to home. Once you've paddled through Estero Bay's mangrove tunnels and watched dolphins feed in the shallows, you'll never look at your hometown the same way again.
